BANDFEST 2022 REGISTRATION POLICIES
BandFest is an educationally oriented performance festival for concert bands. All interested concert bands are urged to participate. Each band will receive a recorded and written adjudication as well as a brief “on-stage” clinic from adjudicators immediately following each performance. The Syllabus is not an official list, rather a guide for directors to choose repertoire from based on difficulty. Each band is encouraged to perform two or three contrasting works (“pop” oriented pieces are not acceptable) and a march.
Total playing time should not exceed twenty-five (25) minutes per band in order to allow for clinic time. If fewer than three works are performed, a minimum of fifteen (15) minutes of music should be performed. Each band must provide their own percussion equipment aside from the following instruments provided: 4 timpani, bass drum and chimes. Each band will be given thirty-five (35) minutes to set-up, perform and receive an on-stage clinic. This time limit will be strictly enforced.
We are very pleased to have two outstanding adjudicators again this year. More detailed information regarding the adjudicators is available on our Adjudicators page.
Adjudicators will provide taped and written comments based on specific musical criteria as outlined on the Concert Band Adjudication Criteria Form. In addition, each adjudicator will assign every band an overall rating (Superior, Excellent, Good, Fair, and Poor) based on the band’s performance.
A copy of the adjudication form will also be sent before the festival to those bands that register.
Two (2) copies of each selection performed are required for the adjudicators (in addition to the one (1) copy you may need to conduct from (for a total of 3 scores). We encourage you to order extra scores as soon as possible. The festival does not provide any scores.
Due to strict copyright regulations we are not permitted to accept photocopied scores except when they are accompanied by a letter of permission from the publisher. There can be no exceptions to this rule.
Bandfest 2022 is not affiliated with any national festival. If you wish information on how to participate in a national festival, please feel free to contact us.
The entry deadline is Friday, December 17, 2021. This year’s registration fee is $350 CAD and must be mailed in to complete your registration. It should be noted that we are now required to charge the GST on each application – the $350 fee includes the GST ($16.67). If you intend to participate in BandFest, please enter as early as possible as festival slots often fill-up before December. If you register and find that you are unable to attend the festival, please notify us as quickly as possible as a courtesy to those bands who are on the waiting list.
